This in-person learning opportunity will allow participants to get to know the instructional and building moves Doug Fisher and Nancy Frey are utilizing to support and embrace academic conversations. Fisher and Frey are professors of educational leadership at SDSU, teacher leaders at HSHMC and authors dedicated to increasing opportunities for their students. Participants will have the opportunity to connect with teachers, observe classrooms and engage in deep conversations with Fisher and Frey during our time together. Participants will also learn how San Diego Unified is learning and implementing components into their system.

Objectives:

  • District teams will have the chance to see how leaders at Health Sciences High & Middle College implement strategies that embrace equitable practices and that embraces academic conversations and student support.
  • We will observe both classroom shifts (instructional moves to impact student growth in conversations) and leadership shifts (how leadership supports teachers and aligns initiatives) and learn how both actions interact with San Diego Unified
  • Learn how HSHMC collects data and then uses that information to change practice
