The Stanford-SFUSD Partnership unites research and practice to improve achievement for all students in San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD). The Partnership matches researchers from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education with SFUSD district leaders to solve key problems of practice. Together, they create research projects that directly inform the school district’s work to transform teaching and learning for our children in the 21st century.

The Partnership matches researchers from Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education with SFUSD district leaders to solve key problems of practice.

While the Partnership focuses on public schools in San Francisco, it also seeks to serve as a model that activates the potential that lies in district-university partnerships across the nation. We strive to develop the capacity for a system that supports continuous learning across the education sector. To do this we have three main goals to guide the partnership work:

  1. Stanford GSE and SFUSD work together on projects associated with systematic improvements in education.
  2. Stanford and SFUSD Learn from each other as a means to improve educational practices & policies.
  3. Researchers and practitioners across the country learn from the collaboration between Stanford and SFUSD.

With support from California Education Partners, the Partnership director facilitates relationships between university researchers and district staff, oversees capacity building and works with SFUSD leaders to use the research findings to inform decision-making. The result is a collaboration that supports student success from preschool through grade 12 and beyond.
