At the October Design Team meeting, we presented a draft 'definition of early literacy' synthesized from the District Teams' 'Current State of Early Literacy' documents and the work teams did together in September 2014.

“As students enter school and advance through the early grades, they are mastering the standards in reading, writing, speaking, listening, and language with enthusiasm and joy, are able to exhibit with increasing fullness and regularity these capacities of the literate individual, and are on the path for college and career readiness from the first day of school.”

We then asked small, cross-district groups to begin the agreement process by first doing a visualization exercise around the CCSS: Students Who are College and Career Ready in Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening, & Language profile. 

 

Then based on those conversations we asked our groups to begin discussing and editing the draft definitions. Click on the posters below to read their suggestions:
